Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
Our address is 1306 Old Lancaster Pike in Hockessin. There is not a sign yet. We are located inside of Body Mind Spirit Massage. You can park in the lot in the back and walk in through the back door.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a system of low-impact exercises that focuses on joint mobility, spinal health, and full-body strengthening. The original exercises and accompanying equipment were designed by Joseph Pilates to provide both resistance and support. While the style of The Movement Lab most definitely respects the original technique, we are also inspired by other fitness and movement modalities as well as the specifc needs, abilities, and desires of our clients.
How do I book my session?
To book your session, please fill out the Contact Us form below. I will reach out to you, and we will see if your schedules align for an initial session. Please note that, in the interest of maintaining my own work/life harmony, not all inquiries will result in appointments.
I have an injury. Can I still do Pilates?
Before coming to the studio, please make sure you've cleared it with your medical team. Once you have medical clearance, come on in! The beauty of private pilates is that the class is completely tailored to your ability. Everything comes with options and choices and we will work with you to pick the best ones for your health and safety.
Should I wait until I’m “in shape” to do Pilates?
That's not necessary. I'm more than happy to be a part of your team while you work towards achieving your goals. That being said, all bodies are welcome here. We will meet you where you are and walk with you along the way.
Why is Pilates So Expensive?
That is a loaded question. Becoming a certified comprehensive pilates instructor requires hundreds of hours of training and additional hours of continuing education. The equipment is specialized and unique to the technique. It is big, bulky, and intricate and there are only a few companies that make the authentic equipment. It makes the whole thing a really big investment.
There's also a bit of socioeconomics at play. Without droning on, I will say that capitalism and elitism are diseases of modern society. Joseph Pilates wrote that "Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness." I believe that. I believe that happiness should be available to everyone not only the people who can afford it. So, in an effort to be a part of the solution, I will say this: if you really want to benefit from Pilates but don't see a package option that matches your situation, contact me anyway and we'll see what we can do.
Do you have any virtual options?
All private and duet sessions can be conducted either in the studio or virtually.
